Up!

I saw Disney and Pixar's Up! in 3D at 11:55PM at a movie theater that is 25 minutes away from my house immediately following a 6-hour shift at work.

With that said, I loved the movie to bits. I laughed, I cried (teared up*), I was a bit afraid (this was my first 3D experience, after all.. flying objects made me jerk in my seat), and I feel the movie catered to a variety of film goers, despite the fact that it is essentially a Disney production.

The short, "Partly Cloudy," was the perfect segue to the actual film--delightfully cute and effortlessly amusing. There wasn't much to think about, which can be seen as a drawback, but in this case, I was glad for the mindless giggles and gushing the animation brought about. Or maybe, I was just too tired to care about a complex plot or intricate character development. Ain't no thang.

Oh, the trailer for Where The Wild Things Are really caught my attention. It also made me want to listen to Arcade Fire's "Wake Up" as soon as I got home.

Today I spent around fifty dollars for a car wash and a gym membership. One of these things was my birthday gift to myself. Guess which one it was.

I've known Jan for a long time.. probably for 16 years, give or take a few months. At a very young age, I took up the responsibility of trying to, how should I put this.. "coach her through life." I used to lecture her about the proper way to treat her younger brother, I would make sure she used her manners, I would open soda cans for her, and I was her pop culture guru, giving her weekly exams about the ongoings of the pop princesses and boy bands of our time.

After moving to Austin, growing up, and an inevitable distance in our relationship, things have definitely changed, though in a way, she's still the same girl she was back in first grade. Ever the anime enthusiast and constantly poking people in their sides, there is this childish demeanor in her that will never go away, no matter how much "coaching" I do.

But that's okay. Because I know I will never ever meet anyone like her. Someone as unique as that, you just gotta love.
